The Learning Wizard (TLW) is a unique study skills systems that is the product of over 30 years of teaching experience. Here are some the features that make TLW unique:
For the Student:
- Utilizes cognitive maps and neuroscience principles in the design of the program. TLW develops reading and study skills in a logical sequence as determined by findings in neuroscience.
- Uses the systems approach to integrate study, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
- Utilizes a Socratic approach where the system not only confirms when a correct answer is selected, but also explains why a selected wrong answer is incorrect.
- All units in The Leaning Wizard describe how to get into the zone when studying.
- Gives retention strategies to get into and stay in the zone when obtaining and retaining information.
- Explains how the skills introduced in each unit are required to become an expert learner.
- Explains why it is necessary to use interpersonal communication or self-talk when reading and reviewing.
- Each vocabulary skills and comprehension skills unit explains how the skill introduced is required for critical thinking and problem solving.
- Explains what is required to understand a term's definition.
- Students can access the text material from anywhere (learning lab, home, library, etc). All they need is a web browser.
- Students can highlight any word or phrase in the text material and get a dictionary definition of the highlighted text. This makes it easy for the students to look up terms they do not know.
- Students can bookmark pages and easily get back to them when needed.
- Students can change the font's type, size, and color. Students can also change the background color. This is similar to using colored overlays when reading, which are shown to help some students read better.
- Low cost. Even though The Learning Wizard covers the same amount of material you might find in a 500+ page textbook, the cost of The Learning Wizard is just a fraction of the cost of a traditional text book.
